HSI is proud to announce the new 24-7 EMS Disaster and Counter-Terrorism Medicine series.

This unique offering is a library of 48 online lectures covering the most important topics of disaster medi­cine, including mitigation, preparedness, response and specific disaster scenarios such as earthquakes, hurricanes and CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive) events.

It was designed for first responders, secondary medical care providers and administrators in hospitals and clinics, government employees and any individuals and groups who will be tasked to respond when disaster strikes. The series is also appropriate for training in vocational, secondary and higher education settings for students in a related certificate or degree program. The lectures are 10-25 minutes long, and a completion document is provided to the participants.

In almost any disaster scenario, the local team is the first on the scene and
is often the only EMS resource for the first 2-3 days after a disaster, before the
arrival of help at the federal level.

The content was devel­oped by and features the narration of Gregory Ciottone, M.D., FACEP, an international expert in the field of disaster and counter-terrorism medicine. He is a U.S. board-certified emergency physician and an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where he is the director of the only disaster medicine fellowship program at a Harvard teaching hospital.

In 2006, Dr. Ciottone published Disaster Medicine by Elsevier. The second edition, published in 2016 and titled Ciottone’s Disaster Medicine, was named the leading textbook in the field by the Annals of Emergency Medicine.

In addition to the new disaster medicine series, 24-7 EMS offers over 100 EMS continuing education online courses to help individuals and agencies meet NREMT and state EMT renewal or recertification requirements. We update our courses on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with current EMS Educational Standards. This comprehensive library meets numerous regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards, and all courses are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE). CAPCE-approved courses meet national standards and are generally accepted nationally and by the National Registry of EMTs (Always check with your state EMS agency to verify that CAPCE approval will be accepted).
