Celebrity Heroes to Inspire You

We talk a lot in this blog about bystander rescues, but here’s an interesting twist for today. Suppose your bystander was someone you’ve seen on T.V. or in the movies? Maybe you’ve danced to their music, or read their best-selling novel.

There are some inspiring celebrities out there who, in addition to their talent, also have the confidence to respond.

Clint Eastwood - BadAss

Most recently, tough guy and avid golfer Clint Eastwood had a chance to shine more than usual at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament. At a volunteer party, he came to the aid of the tournament director when the gentleman began to choke on an appetizer. Eastwood successfully performed abdominal thrusts and was able to clear the obstruction.

According to an Associated Press article, Eastwood said, “I looked in his eyes and saw that look of panic people have when they see their life passing before their eyes…It looked bad.”

In a fun slideshow from MSN's entertainment division, they offer a round up of celebs doing the right thing. We especially liked hearing about those stars who used some first aid know-how to be of assistance.

David Lee Roth - The Guy could respond

Like Sean Hayes, star of Will & Grace, who used his shirt to stop the bleeding of a robbery victim who had been shot, and actress Mila Kunis who knew how to put one of her household staff into the recovery position after he suffered a seizure at her home.

Saving the day can be as easy as simply making the call and waiting for the cavalry to arrive. Just ask Dustin Hoffman and Ryan Kwanten, who called EMS and took the time to stay with their patients until professional treatment was rendered.

And we’re giving a big, big thumbs up to rocker David Lee Roth, who is also a New York City EMT. In 2004, Roth used a defibrillator to save a woman’s life.

When you put your training to use, or have the courage and compassion to get involved and render aid simply by calling 911, you are an instant celebrity to the person you are helping.
