The ASHI G2015 CPR Pro training program will be out soon with a new look, updated content, and a new name.

The title of the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer training program has changed to ASHI Basic Life Support (BLS). The program subtitle has also changed from “BLS (CPR and AED) for Healthcare Providers” to “BLS for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers.”

Why the name change?

The program title was changed to keep pace with industry practice and better define the target audience. HSI is a major U.S. cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training organization. ASHI resuscitation training programs are equivalent to the CPR training programs developed and administered by the American Heart Association,® Inc. (AHA) and the American National Red Cross (ARC).

With the release of the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (G2015), the AHA changed the name of its professional-level BLS training program from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers to simply; AHA Basic Life Support. Similarly, the ARC changed its program title from "CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers" to “Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers”.

Will this affect the program’s approval or regulatory acceptance?

It should not affect approval or regulatory acceptance. ASHI resuscitation training programs are developed and administered by HSI, which is a nationally accredited organization of the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE, formerly CECBEMS). CAPCE is the national accrediting body for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) continuing education courses and course providers. ASHI BLS is CAPCE approved and the program is widely accepted in more than 150 healthcare-related occupations.
