2020 Universal Guidelines Update and RSV Webinar
The American Heart Association®, Inc. (AHA) released updated guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), emergency cardiac care (ECC), basic life support (BLS), advanced life cardiac life support (ACLS), and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) on October 21, 2020. These guidelines are largely based on the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation’s (ILCOR) continuous review of the medical literature covering these topics.
A week later, on October 27, 2020, the AHA and the American Red Cross (ARC) published a focused update for first aid.
In order to provide authorized ASHI, MEDIC First Aid, and EMS Safety Instructors with summarized highlights of the recommended changes in CPR, ECC, and first aid, HSI developed the 2020 Universal Guidelines Update & Training Programs Transition Plan.
Please note that Instructors may continue to teach using their current ASHI, MEDIC First Aid, and EMS Safety training programs and materials until the training programs with the new recommendations are available. Given the size and scope of this project, we do not currently have an estimated 2021 date.
As soon as the new HSI emergency care training program materials are available, a reasonable time period will be allowed for Training Centers and Instructors to transition and use up existing student materials before the materials are discontinued and associated certification cards can no longer be legitimately used.
For Instructors who wish to incorporate the updated guidelines before new course materials are available, HSI will provide Universal Interim Training Program materials in Otis on January 15th that are optional to use with existing G2015 training materials.
Please see the Regulatory section for important attestation requirements.
